yes I am sick of xnet as well. just did speed test and it was so slow d/load 94KBPS and upload-13KBPS, might as switch to dial up with those speeds.........and I have found my internet connection will just drop of at any given moment........what is the point. Xnet are bloody useless and don\'t want to know......and the problem is their help desk closes at 8pm at night. and when you call the next day, they tell you to take speed tests over a week and let them know what the readings are........why are we doing their job......i am so over slow broadband speeds.I am going to switch to another company....can anyone suggest a company that have good speeds for a fare price...any suggestions welcome.

XNET for the last year are basically unusable from around 6pm to 7am. If you like watching you tube or any other video content, you definately want another ISP.. If you download torrents expect around 10-20kbps irrespective of time of day. During the working day they are reasonable for http, ftp & mail. As an related aside; Their VFX (VOIP) product is a joke. Useless support and in the evening a speech delay of at least 5 often up to 12 seconds on a local call!! Skype to the other side of the world is a much cleaner and cheaper connection then VFX down the road. I cancelled my account 2 weeks after signing up and that was only because I gave their tech team 1.5 weeks to get back to me with some suggestions. (which they didn\'t) All in all; CAVEAT EMPTOR! if you sign up with these clowns and have a job which prevents you making all your use of internet in the daytime it\'s your own silly fault.

I totally agree xnet sucks balls. I tested my speed just at the time I connected to them. It was 10mb. Sooner my connection was done. Then it went to 200k, I can\'t even use youtube. This is shit, this ISP is worst ISP I have ever seen. My connection is for sure limited under 300k.

XNET SUX. I\'ve been getting consistently 200-250k. Thats right, kb not Mb. when I called I was told to go somewhere else! WTF??? I joined them several years ago & they were great. Since then they have got slowly worse and worse to the point where I\'m planning on going back to $%%^$^ TELECOM.

Definitely not worth its moneys worth Running Naked DSL - 90$ 30gb with 80kb/s speeds on New Zealand servers which other customers (friends) of telstraclear reach up to 1.6MB/S!?!? Stay away in all honestly you'll find better customer service / speeds and satisfaction elsewhere.

I've been with XNet for about 3 years. I find download/response rates to be all over the show and deteriorating all the time. Anywhere between 0Kbps & 300Kpbs. But the most bothersome thing nowadays is the number of unscheduled downtimes. I lose contact with my server at least once a month for anything from 3 minutes to 6 hours. The helpdesk have gone from fairly knowledgeable when I started to rude ignorant idiots who can just about grasp how to reset a password never mind answer a vaguely technical question. Typical phone conversation -------------------------- xnet: Xnet Helpdesk me: Hello, I've been without internet for an hour now. Can you tell me what the problem is? xnet: It says on the website we have a problem. me: I can't check the website without an internet connection can you tell me what the problem is? xnet: couldn't say me: Ok can you give me an estimate of when I may be able to work again. xnet: no me: Right thanks for all your help. That's cleared things up nicely. 2+ years ago I was recommending them to clients & friends now I advise to avoid like the plague. I'm looking for another provider that can provide a static ip with no or a nominal extra charge and then I'll be gone too.

Been with xnet for about 2 years, off and on now speeds when downloading are worse than dial up, I am not a big downloader but when I want to download I want it, I have done international speed tests through xnet and then done speed tests through vpn to other machines on different networks but going through same exchange, it isnt the local exchange slowing me down it is xnet over subscribing clients to what international bandwidth they can offer, there national service is great, just international that is failing

Great plans & pricing, but the speeds very a bit and they have a lot of unplanned outages - about every second day at the moment :-P

I switched from xnet because once they introduced free data after midnight, the service was unusable at that time. As I tend to work/browse until late, this was untenable. I couldn't even read email. I would have had better service with a dialup. I don't know who was getting the bandwidth, but it wasn't me! Goodbye xnet.

XNet SUCKS. My husband and I read they were really really good, but they are on a peer to peer thing, so during your night freetimes, the internet goes SO slow it is virtually unusable! We complained so much they let us cancel and it was the best move we ever made. Right now we are with Snap, who are very good but what we are looking for is an unlimited plan.

Great experience with XNET in hawkes bay. Plans are well priced and can be very flexible depending on your usage. No noticeable down time in two years. I always recommend Xnet.

been with xnet for a year now and am moving house soon. xnet said there will be no problem and the connection will be waiting for me when i get there but i will have to wait and see if this is true. anyway i have talked to a few people about the torrent plan and have found out what happened. when xnet set up the torrent plan they did not expect as many people to jump onto it as they did so thier bandwidth got swamped. that has now been fixed and is working perfectly. i download at about 400kps at night. in resopnce to the person talking about xnet having them up about illegal torrents what do you expect to happen after all you are doing something ILLEGAL after all. and there are lots of free torrents out there. just about everything lynix bassed or any freeware plus theres lots of artest who now release there music free online making it legal to torrent.

Hi there, well I must say that my experience with Xnet has not been a happy one. I was a loyal xnet customer for 2 years from 2004 to 2006. The speed and internet services that they provide are excellent, however there customer service leaves alot to be desired. When we moved to Christchurch I wanted to retain my xnet account so rang xnet up a week before we where about to move to make sure that they had time to change it over. Well after being on hold for 45 minutes waiting to speak to a human I left a message on there answering machine and waited for there reply. Well I waited and waited some more, just to make sure that there was no issue with there phone I sent a couple of emails through to there service desk requesting a change of address. 2 days went by with no reply. So I rang again, same thing, no answer and had to once again leave a message, also sent further emails, this time a little less polite. Then a further 2 days went by with no reply, by this time I was starting to get a little annoyed to say the least. So I moved to Telecom, my god what a crap organization they are, Dont EVER use them as your ISP. Anyway We have moved into our new house and a week had gone by and when I received call from a young cap at Xnet wanting to change the address for my account. I explained my frustration with being ignored and he response was that there billing system had gone down and that they where to busy to answer the phone or respond to customers emails. Well an't that just fine and dandy, I say that if customers based there loyalty purely on customer service then Xnet would certainly have very little custom at all. So if you are in the markey for an ISP that delivers on there promise to provide a fast and reliable internet service then XNET would be fo you. Howeer if you are like me a appreciated SOME half decent form of customer service then I would STRONGLY avoide using this company as your ISP. As it turns out I am now with SNAP and have had no issues at all. Great fast reliable service and always someone on the other end of the phone to talk to. Hope this helps. Tim

Been with xnet on the torrent plan for a while now. I can't fault the service, price and speed.

I think the key point with xnet, is the fact that unlike telecom, slingshot, orcon and other major players; you only pay for the data you use... example... you set your data cap for 10 gigs but you only use 5 gigs during the month. when the bill arrives, your only billed for 5 gigs. other isp's would bill you for the 10 gigs we moved from slingshot to xnet about 2 years ago, and the massive jump in customer service and out happyness value is substantial enough for me to recommend xnet

Got their Torrent plan ("unlimited" downloads from midnight to 8am), which technically is NOT unlimited because you can only download up until 75GB. I availed this plan for the purpose of downloading torrents obviously. Last night, they have suspended my account because of downloading a copyrighted material (which technically, ALL torrents are!) I have called their technical helpdesk the next day asking what torrents am I allowed to download, and they told me that I cannot download torrents from public websites...in other words, NONE! I asked them, if that's the case, why is their plan called HSI TORRENT when in fact you can't download one?? I was advised that I can only go to certain websites like RAPIDSHARE and MEGAUPLOAD to download THE SAME MATERIALS THAT I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO DOWNLOAD THE FIRST TIME and all public torrent downloads are illegal. First, RAPIDSHARE/MEGAUPLOAD are NOT torrents, second, what is the difference if downloading from those public websites? Is it because that you need to pay for those ones?? Tips for all: READ YOUR ISP'S TERMS AND CONDITIONS!!! I haven't known any NZ ISP who does this. This is supposed to be the ideal plan for torrent downloaders but IT IS COMPLETELY USELESS IF YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD TORRENTS!!! CHANGE YOUR PLAN'S NAME TO SOMETHING ELSE!! YOU ARE MISLEADING THE PUBLIC!!

The first month was very fast but it did diconnect my DSL at least once aday. This month on the torrent plan you would be lucky to be able to down load 30kps and you would NEVER get anywhere near there 75gigs a month as suggested and always disconnect. Never had a problem with it disconnecting with any other DSL plan. For the money you pay this plan is by far worse than telecoms go large plan and throttled far more than telecom ever have. The help desk is shocking and i gave up calling them and sent e-mails but as yet they have only ever replied to one and will not reply to any others. They need to fix this plan or stop offering it as it is the most shocking speeds i have seen out of ADSL for the last 6-7 years. i would NEVER sugest this plan to anyone.

Was great for first month but now speeds after midnight are apalling and not much better before. There helpdesk basically just said that is the way it is, they are looking at changing torrent plan. Speaking of which you couldn't download half of their 'free' offpeak 75 gig at current speeds.

Here's my experience, for what it is worth. Been with Telecom forever for phones. KCNet has been my isp from day 1. Shifted house recently from Torbay to Mairangi Bay. Asked Telecom could we take our phone numbers with us (one residential one business). Nope. Best they could so is keep (and pay for) old and new numbers and pay for diversion. Total cost per month around $120. Plus broadband, at about $60 or so. Next problem, the house we moved to has only one physical line to it, and down a long driveway the cost of thrusting another line was huge. So Telecom said they couldn't provide two numbers anyway. I googled voip in NZ and found a blog which talked about xnet. So I contacted xnet. Also contacted orcon because my work has a relationship with them and we get preferential rates. Orcon couldn't solve my problem either any better than Telecom could. Xnet? Here's what I've ended up with - over that single physical line. Unlimited speed broadband (ADSL today, ADSL2 to come), plenty of capacity, TWO VOIP lines, with normal analogue phones plugged in, voicemail on both (which emails me every call as well, so I can easily see who called while I was out, without checking voicemail), AND they ported our original numbers from Browns Bay. Cost - bought two new dual handset analogue (portable) phones from Harvey Norman, $119 per pair. Bought new modem as recommended by Xnet, $124. Setup no charge, monthly $70, plus $1 per GB (say $10 per month), plus free local calls, 5 cents minute anywhere in NZ, Australia, US, UK. Summary, saving way more than $100 a month over Telecom/KCNet combo, retained our numbers, extremely happy. Had some setup hiccups, but resolved quickly. Sure, the helpdesk wait is almost as bad as Telecom's, but no worse, and they fixed my issue first time each time. Had one power outage and had to reboot modem to get phones back. I recommend XNet as highly as I can. Go for it.

This is an interesting pricing method - I like it.

This is your opportunity to share your experiences of this ISP with other users — is it really as fast as it claims to be? Is their customer service any good? Do they have regular outages, or is their service reliable?

Please keep your comment short and on-topic.
